I have no idea what any of this means, therefore I will not be showing you how to write them. I will only be instructing on where to find them, my method of acquiring them and how to get them to play in game.
I will eventually cover the Songbook Plugin too.
BEFORE YOU START:
Your Music folder for LOTRO is located in C:\Users\yourname\Documents\The Lord of the Rings Online\Music .Open this folder and keep it around. You're going to need it.
Firstly, we are going to need some .abc files
I use the website http://www.thefatlute.com/ but there are others out there such as http://www.lotro-abc.com/ and http://www.lotroinfo.com/abc_library . As I only really know thefatlute.com, I will be instructing as if you were using it too, but the other sites should be fairly similar. Search for a song you would like or just chose at random. Some songs have multiple parts, others are solo pieces. Now there are 2 ways to gather the ABCs.
Method 1: Click 'Add All Parts To Cart'. You will need an account (free and spamless). Go to your basket and click download. The file will be downloaded as a .rar file (you will need winRar or 7zip to extract it). Locate the file from your downloads directory and cut the file.
Open your LOTRO music folder and paste in the file and extract it. You may as well delete the .rar file now. You don't need it anymore. You can leave the .abc file named as it is or you can right-click it and rename it to something shorter or easier to remember, for example, GreenHornet.abc
Method 2: Select all the notation from the box and copy it (ctrl+a, ctrl+c). Go into your LOTRO music folder and right click in a blank space and locate 'New' then 'Text Document' NOT Word document. This will create a blank notepad file. Name it something simple or easy to remember and then open the file. Paste your notation into the file (ctrl+p). Save the file (ctrl+s) and close the notepad.
Now back in the LOTRO music folder, select the file and right click it. If you have file extensions visible, go to rename, if not, go to properties. (you will know if you do or dont by the file being called songname.txt (visible) or just songname (not visible)) Locate the area where it says songname.txt and change the .txt to .abc . You will get the warning "if you change a file name extension, the file might become unstable. Are you sure you want to change it?" Click YES
Both Methods: In the game, equip your instrument of choice. in the chat bar type /play songname and a message will come up in the chatbox saying "you have started playing songname"
Let the music begin!
NOTES:
- It is possible to keep your music folder tidy by having folders, for example "Bach" for songs only by Bach. The only difference is you have to type /play bach/songname
- To play with other people, firstly become a fellowship and ensure you all have the same version of the song. Then type /play songname sync . You will get a message in the chatbox saying "You are ready to play songname" and "someoneelse is ready to play songname". One of the fellowship then has to type /playstart
